Versatile was operating on a completely manual system that was increasingly unable to meet its requirements. Lee Chater, Sales Director comments, “Hire management is very involved in terms of documentation. Every single day-to-day documentation was being done by hand, and it reached a point where we realised that if we wanted to expand, we would have to move to an automated system that could grow with us.”
Straightforward and Reliable
Lee’s team reviewed the options available, and the decision was taken to go with Syrinx. Although cost was important it was by no means the deciding factor, and usability was the key criteria. Lee says, “The most important point for us was that the system was straightforward and reliable. Implementation took just six weeks – staff were trained with simple on site tutorials and follow up telephone advice if required. Lee was impressed with the user-friendly nature of the software. He jokes “We’re not the most computer savvy bunch in the world but we all got our heads around it very quickly.”

The practical benefits of their new investment soon became apparent as the role of Syrinx grew within the business. Lee comments “It has benefited us in ways we hadn’t expected. Although we had identified hire management as the key problem area, we now use Syrinx for all of our sales, parts and service administration, as well as reporting. We can look back at utilisation, sales and turnover using graphs and other easy-to-follow devices. Syrinx presents information in a digestible format which is a huge help to us”.
With the growth of the business has come an increase in staff numbers and again, Syrinx has proved capable of being adopted by the larger team. Says Lee “We have now doubled our staff and new employees get the hang of it very quickly.”

As for the future, Lee sees huge potential for Syrinx to support Versatile as it plans for growth. “Sometimes systems are so complicated they can actually work against you, but Syrinx is the opposite and very user friendly. We feel fully in control of things now, spending less time on admin. Because of Syrinx we’re in a position to really push the business forward.”
